Ford Leads the Industry in Four-Wheel-Powered Trucks and SUVs

2022 Ford Bronco | Pittsburgh, PA

Thanks to an incredible portfolio of vehicles including the F-150 Raptor and Bronco, Ford is reestablishing itself as the name to beat for off-road enthusiasts. To celebrate 4×4 Day — or April 4 — Ford revealed that it is America’s top brand for four-wheel-powered trucks and SUVs.

According to S&P Global Mobility data, Ford sold 1.2 million four-wheel-powered vehicles in 2021. That’s 18% more than Toyota and a whole 42% more than Jeep. This includes any vehicles with 4×4, four-wheel drive, or all-wheel drive.

Ford U.S. SUV Marketing Manager Dave Rivers said that 75 percent of all Ford vehicles sold at retail last year were four-wheel-powered.

“We know customers want SUVs for the additional cargo space and convenience, and also for the capability and confidence that comes with a four-wheel-powered vehicle,” said Rivers.

A big reason for this is the variety Ford offers. The 2022 North American Truck of the Year™ and North American Utility Vehicle of the Year™ — the Maverick and Bronco, respectively — show the depth and breadth of the Blue Oval portfolio when it comes to four-wheel-powered trucks and SUVs.

Meet the First-Ever Ford Bronco Everglades

Ford Bronco Everglades | Pittsburgh, PA

2022 is shaping up to be a massive year for the new Ford Bronco. Not only did the off-road warrior win the 2022 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year™, but it’s also coming back strong with two new models. In addition to the highly powerful Bronco Raptor, Ford is launching a new 2022 Bronco Everglades that’s made for running amok in the muck.

The most distinctive feature of the 2022 Ford Bronco Everglades is the snorkel on the passenger-side A-pillar. Developed and engineered by Ford, this class-exclusive tool comes with a pair of swappable plates that let you adjust its functionality depending on situations. You can use the snorkel to feed more air into the engine when you’re trekking through deep sand, snow, and water.

With the Ford Bronco Everglades, you also get the legendary Sasquatch™ Package, which includes burly 35-inch Goodyear mud-terrain tires that allow for up to 36.4 inches of water-fording capability. Get Ready for the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor

Ford Bronco Raptor | Pittsburgh, PA

The Ford Bronco just keeps finding ways to get better. The latest example: the first-ever 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor, the most powerful street-legal Bronco ever made by the Blue Oval brand.

The 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor takes the foundation of the 2022 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year™ and makes it even more ready for adventures yet to come. The Bronco Raptor is the first SUV of its kind inspired by the Ultra4 Racing off-road series, and that means it offers even more capability than ever.

With the Bronco Raptor, you get a wider base for better cornering, a revamped Raptor HOSS 4.0 suspension with FOX™ Live Valve™ technology, and standard 37-inch BFGoodrich® KO2 all-terrain tires. But the arguable star of the show is a high-powered 3.0-liter EcoBoost® twin-turbo V6 that’s estimated to put out at least 400 horsepower.

This thing is made for desert racing and Baja-style rock crawling. So just imagine how awesome it’s going to make your next off-road adventure in Pennsylvania.

If you’ve still got an outstanding reservation for a Ford Bronco, you may not have to imagine much longer. You can place your order for a Bronco Raptor beginning this month, and most of the 2022 model year allocation will go to current reservation holders.

One of the most notable upgrades for 2022 is an increase in range for the California Route 1 trim. The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 can now go an EPA-estimated 314 miles on a full charge with rear-wheel drive and the extended-range battery.[1] That’s a big jump from the 2021 model’s 305 miles of range.

New Ford Bronco Sport, Mustang Mach-E Score High Marks in 2021 APEAL Study

Ford Bronco Sport | Shults Ford South

Earlier this year, J.D. Power released its 2021 APEAL Study and named the all-new Ford Bronco Sport and Mustang Mach-E two of its top honorees. The annual study measures the attachment new-vehicle owners have to their rides, so it’s no surprise to see two Ford superstars on the list.

The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport, which boasts standard 4×4 and a chic Bronco-inspired design, topped the APEAL Study in the Small SUV category. In a bit of beautiful irony, the Bronco Sport outranked onetime rival the Chevrolet Trailblazer, which ranked a distant third.

In the Compact SUV segment, the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E electrified customers to earn the top spot in the segment. The Mustang Mach-E has been one of the most popular new vehicles in the Ford lineup thanks to its impressive range, power, styling, and technology.

“Ford very much believes in listening to its customers,” said Chris Brewer, executive director, quality, Ford Motor Company. “These vehicles were created to delight and impress them every time they get behind the wheel. We’re honored by this award. It tells us we’re delivering on their wants and needs.”

The all-new 2021 Ford Bronco Sport and Mustang Mach-E both earned top honors in the new APEAL Study because customers love them. To see for yourself, contact the team at Shults Ford South and we’ll set you up with a test drive in either or both of these amazing vehicles.

HOSS System Makes Ford Bronco, Bronco Sport Beastly

Ford Bronco | Ford Bronco Sport | Pittsburgh, PA

When you think of the word hoss, you think of something robust, powerful, strong. All of these words accurately describe the High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension — or HOSS — which underpins the all-new, all-exciting 2021 Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport.

With the HOSS system, the Bronco lineup has go-anywhere, do-anything capability and confidence. Features like an independent front suspension and heavy-duty dampers give these off-road SUVs the durability you need to go over any type of terrain. Pair the HOSS system with Terrain Management System™ and G.O.A.T. Modes™ as well as standard 4×4 capabilities across the range, and you’ve got a beast of a whole different stripe.

“We listened to what off-road enthusiasts wanted in terms of capability and control — and heard a lot about what could be improved in the current off-road SUV offerings — namely harsh ride, sloppy steering, and discomfort above crawling speeds,” said Mark Grueber, Bronco consumer marketing manager. “Our answer was to design a lighter, more agile suspension system tuned to deliver more confident off-road capabilities without having to trade comfort and control.”

And if you consider yourself a hardened off-road adventurer, the HOSS system gets upgraded when you upgrade to the Badlands™ trim with the Bronco and Bronco Sport or the Sasquatch™ Package offered with the Bronco. When properly equipped, a Bronco Badlands™ offers best-in-class water fording up to 33.5 inches as well as best-in-class ground clearance.[1]

Got big plans for the rest of 2021 or looking ahead to 2022? Check out the all-new Bronco and Bronco Sport. You can learn more about these absolute hosses when you visit Shults Ford South in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
