Ford Ion Park Global Battery Center Announced

With the all-new Mustang Mach-E and upcoming F-150 Lightning, it’s clear that Ford is leading the charge toward an all-electric future. To help make that better tomorrow come closer to today, Ford announced a new state-of-the-art research and development center in Dearborn called Ford Ion Park.

According to Ford Chief Product Platform and Operation Officer Hau Thai-Tang, Ford Ion Park will help the automaker scale battery production so that it can cost-effectively ramp up development and make it easier and more affordable to upgrade to an EV.

The 20,000-square-foot learning lab will include the latest equipment and technology needed to test battery cells and arrays, allowing Ford to develop cutting-edge batteries for cutting-edge EVs. Ford Ion Park will also include a $185 million collaborative learning lab in Southeast Michigan dedicated to testing batteries and EVs.

Ford is putting the pedal down when it comes to the future of electric vehicles. This year, Ford upped its global investment in EVs to $22 billion, promising more battery electric vehicles to come by 2025. Maybe the most exciting yet is the all-new 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning, which was revealed in May. The all-electric F-150 promises to be the quickest yet as well as one of the most intelligent, and it should offer an EPA-estimated range well over 300 miles.
